Charlotte Woman Jailed Under 225K Bond On Felony Charges Filed In Burke County

31-year-old Ahkytra Denise Green of Charlotte was arrested Thursday (May 11) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She’s charged with felony counts of larceny and defeating an antishoplifting device by concealment along with a misdemeanor count of failure to appear for failure to comply.

On Thursday afternoon, a Morganton Public Safety Officer responded to Morganton Heights Boulevard in reference to a shoplifting call. Before the officer arrived at the scene, the suspect, Ahkytra Green fled the scene in a silver passenger car. An officer encountered the vehicle on Burkemont Avenue as it was attempting to flee to Interstate 40. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, which proceeded to the interstate. The vehicle was later stopped and the suspect was taken into custody shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Green has a criminal history that includes convictions in the state dating back to 2012. She’s been convicted on misdemeanor and felony charges in multiple counties including Catawba, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Union. The most recent conviction was in August, 2020 in Mecklenburg County.

Following Thursday’s arrest, Green was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $225,000 secured bond. She remained in jail as of earlier today (May 12). A District Court date was scheduled today in Morganton.
