Charlotte Man Sentenced in Hickory Robbery Case

31-year-old Marcus Deshawn Mayfield of Charlotte was sentenced to an active prison term of six-to-nine years following his guilty plea to robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. The Honorable Daniel A. Kuehnert, Superior Court Judge from Burke County, imposed the sentence in Superior Court yesterday (January 18).

In January of last year, the defendant met the victim at an apartment complex in Hickory. Video surveillance showed Mayfield as he pointed a handgun at the victim and took money and a phone. The defendant left in a van, but was later apprehended.

Mayfield has a June 2015 conviction in Catawba County for possession of a firearm by felon.

Tammy Johnson investigated the case for Hickory Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Howard Wellons with aid from Legal Assistant Meredith Scott.
