Charlotte Man Charged With Attempted Burglary In Burke County

25-year-old Ramiro Marcelo Cruz of Charlotte was arrested Monday (March 18) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony attempted first-degree burglary and misdemeanor second-degree trespassing.

On Monday, Morganton Department of Public Safety officers received a 911 call in regards to a break-in in progress. The caller reported her ex-boyfriend was attempting to gain entry to her home with the use of what she believed to be power tools. Officers arrived at the scene and quickly identified the suspect’s vehicle parked in the area.

The suspect attempted to hide in the rear passenger area of the truck and was positively identified as Ramiro Marcelo Cruz. Cruz was detained and further investigation resulted in the discovery of footprints and pry marks on the front door as well as a rear screen removed from a window.

Cruz was transported to the Burke County Jail and initially placed under a 48-hour hold. He was no longer listed as an inmate in Burke County as of today (March 19). A first appearance in District Court was scheduled Monday. His next District Court date is set for April 8.
