Charge Filed In Fatal Hit & Run
49-year-old James Derrick Scott of Hickory was arrested and charged by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with felony hit and run. He’s charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on U.S. 70 in Catawba County on Thursday, April 13.
The deceased is 63-year-old Raymond Lee Gentry of Conover. At approximately 10:40 p.m. on April 13, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to U.S. 70 near Penny Road. A pedestrian on U.S. 70 was struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene.
Mr. Gentry passed away as a result of his injuries at the scene. Scott was arrested after turning himself in at the Catawba County Magistrate’s Office. He received a $50,000 bond. He was not listed as an inmate in Catawba County today (April 22).
