Catawba County Schools announced the appointment of Devin Houston as Director of Maintenance, effective June 1, 2026, following approval by the Board of Education during its May 18 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover shared his enthusiasm for the appointment, highlighting the district’s commitment to developing leaders from within.

“Devin’s experience and dedication to Catawba County Schools have helped support safe and welcoming learning environments for our students and staff for many years,” said Dr. Stover. “We are excited to continue promoting talented leaders from within our district.”

Houston brings 18 years of experience with Catawba County Schools, serving in several operational and leadership roles throughout the district. Most recently, he has served as Assistant Director of Construction and Maintenance for the past three years.

During his career with CCS, Houston has held positions including Health and Environmental Coordinator and Custodial Specialist. He has also co-managed multiple major construction and renovation projects while overseeing daily operations within the Construction and Maintenance Department.

Houston earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University and says he is honored to continue building on the department’s strong foundation.

“I look forward to continuing the high standards established by my predecessors within the Maintenance Department,” Houston said. “Our mission is to provide facilities that are safe, comfortable, and secure for the students and staff of Catawba County Schools.”

A resident of Claremont, Houston and his wife, Kristin — a teacher with Catawba County Schools — are deeply connected to the district.
