Catawba County Schools Confirms Three New Appointments

Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover has announced that Neil Everett will be the new Principal at Mill Creek Middle School and James Byrd will be the new Principal at River Bend Middle School. Tashanna Mays will be the Compass Principal & Assistant Director of Behavior Support. The school board confirmed the positions on Monday night (June 24) at their regular meeting.

Neil Everett has been with Catawba County Schools since 2012, most recently, as Assistant Principal at St. Stephens High School, where he also served as Athletic Director. A graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Everett holds degrees from U.N.C.-Pembroke and Gardner-Webb University.

James Byrd holds degrees from Western Carolina and Appalachian State. Mr. Byrd has 12 years of experience teaching English at North Wilkes High School and Bunker Hill High School. He also served as Assistant Principal at North Wilkes Middle and Bunker Hill High School and was principal at Mill Creek Middle School.

Tashanna Mays has served as Principal at River Bend Middle School since 2019 and has been a Regional Coordinator for North Carolina Middle-Level Education. She has also held positions as Assistant Principal at both John F. Matherly School and River Bend Middle School.
