Catawba County Schools Appoints New Principal

Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover announced a new principal appointment for the upcoming school year. Amy Plonk was named principal at C. H. Tuttle Elementary School. The school board confirmed the position at Monday night’s regular Board of Education meeting. Mrs. Plonk will officially assume her new position on June 1, 2024. A graduate of Shelby High School, Plonk began her teaching career in Shelby City Schools and later taught in Lincoln County Schools, with 24 years of teaching experience at the elementary level. Plonk is an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and received her Masters in School Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. Plonk is currently serving Catawba County Schools in the role of assistant principal at Tuttle Elementary, and she is excited to step into this new leadership role.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue to lead and serve the students, families, staff and community of Tuttle Elementary School,” notes Plonk. “I am eager to continue cultivating an environment where stakeholders feel a sense of belonging. I look forward to further fostering our school’s sense of family and unity. We are Tuttle, We are Family.”

Plonk currently resides in Sherrills Ford with her husband, Darrell, daughter, Emma, and son, Eli. In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends and family and spending time on the lake.
