Catawba County Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Crash

28-year-old George Lee of Claremont was arrested Saturday (June 24) by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. According to the North Carolina Judicial Branch website he’s charged with felony serious injury by vehicle. Lee is also charged with traffic counts including driving while impaired, reckless driving with wanton disregard, and operating a vehicle with no insurance.

On Saturday, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision in Iredell County on Buffalo Shoals Road near Old Mountain Road. A 2007 Infiniti G35 was traveling east on Buffalo Shoals Road, attempted to turn left into a gas station, and turned in front of a westbound 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The driver of the Harley Davidson, 48-year-old Chad Jeremy Hart of Statesville, was transported by EMS to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He passed away as a result of his injuries Sunday morning (June 25). During the incident, Hart was ejected from the motorcycle. The driver of the Infiniti, George Lee, was not injured. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately one hour.

The initial investigation indicated impairment to be a contributing factor. Lee was arrested and initially charged with the driving while impaired count. The additional charges were added later. Lee was being held in the Iredell County Detention Center as of earlier today (June 26) under $200,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today.
