Catawba County Commissioners Meet, Vote On Budget

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met Monday night (June 3). County Manager Mary Furtado presented the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget Ordinance for adoption.

Last month, Catawba County Manager Mary Furtado presented a recommended budget of nearly $324 million to the Board of Commissioners. The presentation was made during the board’s May 13 budget workshop. The full recommended budget and supporting documents are available online at

The County Manager’s recommended budget maintains a stable property tax rate of 39.85 cents per $100 of valuation, which is the lowest in the region and the 8th lowest tax rate in North Carolina. In late May, Commissioners held a budget workshop with county departments and outside agencies followed by a county budget public hearing. The board adopted the budget ordinance at Monday’s meeting.

In other action Monday, the board heard a presentation of a resolution to direct the expenditure of opioid settlement funds. The board adopted the resolution. The consent agenda containing two items was approved by the board. One of the items was a recommendation from the Finance & Personnel Subcommittee requesting that the board approve a bid award for construction of an addition and renovation for the Catawba County Garage to Moss-Marlow Building Co., Inc. of Hickory, NC, in an amount not to exceed $1,078,745.

During the manager’s report there was a presentation of a resolution to oppose the City of Charlotte Interbasin Transfer Request. The board adopted the resolution.
