The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Monday night (August 2).
The Board approved the Project Budget Ordinance in the amount of $100,000, an administration agreement between the county and Western Piedmont Council of Governments and the Assistance & Procurement/Disbursement Policies for the 2021 North Carolina Housing Finance Agency Urgent Repair Grant. Commissioners also approved a resolution for Catawba County to accept the American Recovery Plan Act funds. These are the coronavirus state and local fiscal recovery funds.
The board also approved all four consent agenda items. These items include the appropriation of $46,398 in grant funds from the N.C. Dept. of Environmental Quality Water Resources on behalf of the YMCA of Catawba Valley. In addition, the board appropriated $34,673 in matching funds provided by the YMCA and they authorized the County Manager to execute agreements related to the grant.
Also in the consent agenda was the approval of the purchase of 22.29 acres for future Blackburn Landfill use. In addition, as part of this item, the board approved the appropriation of $475,000 for property purchase and demo, the declaration of four structures and associated outbuildings as surplus property and the approval of the demolition and removal of structures.
There were multiple appointments made during Monday’s Catawba County Board of Commissioners meeting. Included in those appointments, Deputy County Manager Mary Furtado recommended the appointment of Barbara Morris as the Interim Clerk to the Catawba County Board of Commissioners effective Monday. This and all other appointments were approved.
