Catawba County Commissioners Meet, Chair And Vice Chair Named

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Monday night (December 7). North Carolina State Representative Mitchell Setzer administered the oaths of office to Barbara Beatty and Austin Allran. The Board elected Randy Isenhower as Board Chair and Barbara Beatty as Vice Chair. Other organizational appointments were also made.

County Manager Mick Berry presented a resolution authorizing the purchase of property in the Mountain Creek Township. Commissioners passed it unanimously. Vice Chair Beatty recommended the reappointment of Douglas Howard and the first term appointment of Alan Story on the Catawba Valley Medical Center Board of Trustees. The appointments were approved by the board. These terms will expire December 31, 2023.

The following consent agenda items were approved by the board. The Finance and Personnel Subcommittee requested that Commissioners approve a $240K supplemental appropriation to replace an ambulance that was declared a total loss as a result of a motor vehicle collision. This subcommittee also requested that the board approve a six month extension of the Memorandum of Understanding between Catawba County and the Catawba County Historical Association regarding the repair of the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge.

The Policy and Public Works Subcommittee requested that the board approve a resolution to declare surplus and authorize the publication of a notice of bid based on an offer to purchase of two County-owned properties located in Hickory. And the
Finance and Personnel Subcommittee requested that the board approve its application for $20,848,529 in needs based Capital Funding from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to fund a new academic wing at Newton‐Conover HS, with a max State award of $10M & a minimum $1 to $1 required match.
