Catawba County Commissioners Meet, Approve Multiple Items

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Monday (October 19). During the meeting, the board approved the consent agenda, which contained six items.

Included in those items was a request that the board approve the distribution of $95,000 in Catawba Rural Fire District tax revenue to the Catawba Volunteer Fire Department. The funds would be used to purchase capital items. Another item on the consent agenda was the approval of a request from the Finance and Personnel Subcommittee to construct a new EMS base in Newton. The bid was awarded to Moss-Marlow Building.

In addition, as part of the consent agenda, the board approved a request from the Finance and Personnel Subcommittee for the transfer $89,222.54 from a completed roofing project. The funds would be used to replace the telephone, intercom, and paging system at Newton-Conover High School and add to system-wide roofing funds.

Also during Monday’s Catawba County Board of Commissioners meeting, the board appointed Brian Myers as Catawba County Tax Administrator. Commissioner Kitty Barnes presented a proclamation to declaring October Cybersecurity Month in Catawba County.
