Catawba County Approves Parks Plan, Livestock Facility Funding
NEWTON, N.C. (WHKY) — Catawba County Commissioners approved a new 10-year parks plan and moved forward with funding for a livestock education facility during their Monday night meeting.
The board approved the county’s 2026-2036 Parks Master Plan following a presentation by Parks Director David Wagg.
Commissioners also approved a construction bid of up to $1,525,800 for the Catawba County Livestock Education Facility. The county will use $600,000 in state-directed grant funding and another $400,000 from the General Fund balance to cover the project deficit.
In other action, commissioners approved a rezoning request for two parcels totaling 2.54 acres at 5785 East N.C. Highway 150 from residential to highway commercial.
The board also terminated an economic development agreement with Wanzl North America after county officials said the company did not meet required investment and job-creation benchmarks. No incentive payments were made under the agreement.
