NEWTON, N.C. (WHKY) — Catawba County commissioners have accepted a $375,000 grant to remove debris blockages from streams across the county.

The money will come from the North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation Commission. Commissioners also authorized the county manager to execute the required grant agreement.

The county’s meeting recap did not identify the waterways that will receive work or provide a project schedule.

In a separate action Monday, the board appropriated $48,000 in available fire-district fund balance for Bandy’s Crossroads Fire Department. The one-time allocation will pay for firefighter personal protective equipment and portable radios.
