Caldwell’s Ramirez Named NJCAA D3 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute student-athlete Emily Ramirez was named National Junior College Athletic Association Division Three Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for October 16-22.

Last Saturday in the semifinals and final of the Region 10 D-3 Volleyball Tournament, Ramirez recorded 43 digs as the Cobras captured their first Region 10 championship in program history. Ramirez, a freshman libero from Crumpler, NC, averaged 6.14 digs per set for the tournament.

This was the second time this season that Ramirez has been named NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week, as she also won the honor the week of August 28-September 3. Ramirez becomes the first student-athlete in Caldwell Athletics history to win multiple national-player of the week honors.

Caldwell is 20-5 on the season and is eighth in this week’s NJCAA D-3 volleyball rankings. The team will travel to Butler County (PA) Community College for the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Championship on Saturday. The winner of the match will receive a bid to the NJCAA Volleyball National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, November 9-11.
