Caldwell Softball Sweeps Doubleheader And Snaps Florence-Darlington’s Seven Game Winning Streak

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s softball team swept a doubleheader at Florence-Darlington Technical College on Sunday, winning game one 10-2 in five innings and taking a 2-1 decision in game two.

In game one Caldwell used two big innings to take a commanding lead, scoring four runs in the second inning and six runs in the fourth inning. Sydney Ferguson led the offensive attack, hitting a three-run homerun in the fourth inning. Belle Curry went five innings in the circle, allowing two runs off three hits while striking out seven.

In game two, Caldwell trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth inning before the Cobras’ Carlee Tart scored on an error to tie the game at one. Caldwell would get the go ahead run in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI double by Skylar Banks. Logan Harris pitched seven innings, allowing five hits but only one run (unearned) with one strikeout.

With the sweep, Caldwell improved to 11-7 on the season and halted Florence-Darlington’s seven game winning streak. The Stingers are now 10-5 on the season.

Caldwell returns home to take on rival Catawba Valley Community College on Wednesday. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3PM.
