Caldwell Men’s Basketball Grabs Win Over Spartanburg Methodist
Five Caldwell players scored in double-digits in a key Region 10 road win for the Cobras, 79-70 over Spartanburg Methodist on Wednesday night.
RJ Black came off the bench to score 14 points, all in the first half. Starter Toyaz Soloman also had 14 points while starters Jalen Miller had 12, Pharrell Boyogueno finished with 11, and Brandon Morgan had 10. The other Caldwell starter, Caleb Mauldin, chipped in nine points.
Caldwell opened the game on an 8-0 run with 15:36 remaining in the first half before Spartanburg Methodist answered with a 6-0 run. The Pioneers took their first lead of the game with 8:30 left in the first half at 23-21 on a Kahari Rogers layup. Black would answer with a three-pointer with 8:19 remaining in the half to give Caldwell a 24-23 advantage and the Cobras would never trail the remainder of the game.
Caldwell led 40-33 at the break. Spartanburg Methodist would get within one point after Javi Marlowe’s lay-up made the score 50-49 with 13:37 left in the game. The Cobras outscored the Pioneers 21-11 over the next 9:09 to open their largest lead of the game at 71-60.
With the victory, Caldwell sweeps the season series with Spartanburg Methodist and moved to 7-0 in Region 10 Division 1 play and 19-2 overall.
The Cobras play their final home game of the season on Saturday at 2pm versus Denmark Tech. A victory would give Caldwell their first undefeated home slate in modern program history.
