Caldwell Men’s Basketball Clinches Regular Season Championship With Win

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s men’s basketball shook off a sluggish start to overpower Denmark Tech 111-82 in Hudson on Saturday in Region 10 Division One action.

With the win, Caldwell clinched the regular season championship and will be the top seeded team in the Region 10 tournament, to be held March 14-16 at the Tarlton Complex in Hickory, NC. The Cobras (25-1, 13-0 Region 10 D-1) won their 20th game in a row and their 25th game in a row at home.

Caldwell, ranked 17th in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association men’s basketball rankings, was led in scoring by Cincere Scott with 21 points. Pharrell Boyogueno scored 19 while Terrance Johnson added 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Denmark Tech (11-12, 3-10 Region 10 D-1), jumped out to 11-2 lead less than four minutes into the game. James Freeman’s lay-up at the 11:52 mark of the first half tied the game at 11. Johnson’s dunk with 11:00 minutes remaining in the half gave Caldwell their first lead at 15-13.

Caldwell would stretch their lead to 43-31 at the break. The Cobras opened the second half on a 14-6 run to make the advantage 20 points and put the game away. Caldwell led by as many as 30 points in the second half.

Caldwell will travel to Denmark Tech on Friday for a 5pm tip.
