A Caldwell County man was killed in a Wilkes County highway collision. The deceased is 31-year-old Charlie Monroe Pike of Lenoir.
On Tuesday (November 29) at approximately 7:20 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to N.C. 268 near Boomer Road. A 2014 Toyota Scion was traveling east on N.C. 268, failed to adequately reduce speed, and collided with a 2014 Qlink moped which was also traveling east on NC 268.
The driver of the Scion, 38-year-old Ronnie Allen Honeycutt of Hudson, was not injured. The driver of the moped, Charlie Monroe Pike, passed away at the scene. N.C. 268 was closed in the area for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
Alcohol impairment is suspected to be a contributing circumstance in the collision. Honeycutt was arrested and charged with driving while impaired. Additional charges are pending the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office.
