Caldwell Community College Volleyball Opens Season With Win

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s volleyball team opened the 2023 season with a dominating 3-0 victory over Guilford Tech on Thursday night in Hudson.

In game one, Caldwell jumped out to an early 9-1 lead before Guilford Tech rallied to make it a one score game at 12-11. The Cobras would not give up the lead and took control of the game, going on to win 25-15.

Caldwell was never threatened in game two, starting off with an 8-1 lead, before winning 25-14.

In game three, Guilford Tech took their first lead of the night, scoring the first two points to take a 2-0 lead. Caldwell would storm back, leading 19-5 at one point, before closing out the game 25-14 to win the match three games to none.

Catherine Pate and Leah Pimentel led Caldwell in kills with five each. Laney Craig and Josie Chappell each recorded three aces for the Cobras. Emily Ramirez led the team in digs with 12, while Chappell recorded 11 assists.

Caldwell will travel to Cedar Bluff, VA on Saturday for a tri-match featuring Walters State and host Southwest Virginia Community College. The Cobras face Walters State at 11AM before taking on Southwest Virginia at 1PM.
