Caldwell Community College Split A Pair of Games in Day One of NJCAA Division 3 Tournament

Caldwell Community College opened the National Junior College Athletic Association Division 3 softball tournament with a resounding 12-0 win over Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester Wednesday. Games are being played at at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Cobras are the fifth seed in the tournament. Kacey Triplett and Taryn Estes both had home runs for the Cobras. Triplett fell a double shy of hitting for the cycle.

The Cobras win advanced them in the winners bracket where they played against top seeded North Dakota State College of Science but fell 7-5. The Cobras led 3-0 in the top of the fourth but South Dakota SCS plated four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, the Cobras tied it when Maddison Powell scored on a wild pitch. Caldwell then took the lead on an error by South Dakota SCS. However, in the home half of the sixth, South Dakota scored three runs to take a 7-5 lead and the eventual win.

Triplett had three hits, with two runs scored and two RBI. However, the Cobras left nine on the base paths.

The Cobras drop into the elimination bracket and will continue play Thursday.
