Caldwell Community College Softball Wins Tenth Straight
The Caldwell Community College softball team swept a doubleheader over Owens Community College of Ohio Monday, in identical 5-0 contests.
In game one, with two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Lauren Anderson hit a double. Christa Walsh followed with walk and Anderson then stole third base. Bri Lewis hit a fly ball to left field that was misplayed, allowing Walsh and Anderson to score.
Lewis led off the sixth inning with a solo homerun. Kayla Hollar would draw a walk and later score on a wild pitch. Abby Reeves got an RBI single to plate Mackenzie Johnson to close out the Cobra scoring.
Anderson picked up the win in the circle, throwing a complete game, with three hits allowed, no runs and striking out seven while walking only one.
In game two, Christa Walsh with a solo homerun got the Cobras on the board in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, Kiara Dewey was hit by a pitch and Kaylee Redwine would single to start the inning. Juliana Aponte’s fly ball was dropped by the center fielder, allowing Dewey to score. Christa Walsh would get a two out RBI single to score Aponte and Redwine would score on a error by the short stop. Caldwell would close out the scoring in the third inning when Ashlyn Castle doubled and was brought in to score on a Zoey Boston single.
Walsh would finish with two RBI. Bri Lewis pitched a no hitter while striking out seven Owens CC batters.
The Cobras improve to 19-2 overall and have won ten games in a row). Caldwell travels to Region 10 opponent Wake Tech on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 4pm.
