Caldwell Community College Softball Wins Doubleheader

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s softball team took game one of Saturday’s doubleheader in Hudson against Pitt Community College by a score of 3-0, giving head coach Scott Triplett and the Cobra softball program their 100th win.

Cobra starting pitcher Belle Curry picked up the win, throwing six innings of shutout softball. She allowed five hits while striking out six batters.

Kacey Triplett led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo homerun to give Caldwell the early. lead. Ashley Antonio hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third inning to give the Cobras a 2-0 advantage.

Caldwell would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning when courtesy runner Daisy Baez scored from second base on a Pitt throwing error.

Mattie Poulos pitched the seventh inning for Caldwell, retiring the Bulldogs in order.

In game two of a doubleheader in Hudson, Pitt Community College’s softball team jumped out to an early lead over Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute enroute to 9-3 victory.

Pitt led 9-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, before the Cobras mounted a rally to avoid being run-ruled. Taryn Estes scored on a Kacey Triplett RBI groundout to give Caldwell its first run of the game. Kaitlyn Wayne would then score on a wild pitch, followed by a homerun from Ashley Antonio to make the score 9-3.

Caldwell relief pitcher Mattie Poulos would hold Pitt at bay the next two innings, but the Cobras could not muster any offense as they lost for the first time at their new home field.

The Cobras are 4-4 on the season. They will play again on Tuesday in a doubleheader on the road at Gaston Community College.
