Caldwell Community College Softball Sweeps Doubleheader

Caldwell Community College softball defeated Patrick and Henry Community College in a doubleheader on Saturday, winning the first game, 10-2 and taking the night cap, 9-7.

In game one, Christa Walsh hit a grand slam homerun in the top of the third inning to help propel Caldwell to a 10-2 win over Patrick & Henry. Isabelle Curry got the win in the circle, allowing two runs off of three hits. Caldwell’s Kenley Jackson and Zoey Boston each hit a double and collected an RBI in the victory. Caldwell also got RBIs from Skylar Banks and Sydney Ferguson.

In game two, Caldwell overcame a five-run deficit and scored two runs in the top off the ninth inning to defeat Patrick & Henry in game two of a doubleheader. Caldwell got two RBIs each from Ashley Antonio and Sydney Ferguson. Christa Walsh and Zoey Boston each hit a double in the game, with Boston collecting an RBI. With her team trailing 5-1 with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, relief pitcher Elizabeth Noble came into the game and allowed only two more runs over the course of seven-plus innings to help secure the victory. With the win, the Cobras earned a sweep of the Patriots and secured the top-seed in the Region 10 Division 3 softball tournament.

The Cobras are 26-16 overall, 8-2 in Region 10, Division 3 play. Caldwell’s doubleheader at Paul D. Camp was cancelled due to rain and will not be made up. Caldwell will be the number one seed in the Region 10 D-3 tournament at Lenoir Optimist Park and will host fourth seeded Paul D. Camp at 12 noon on Friday, May 5.
