Caldwell Community College Softball Splits Pair of Games at Patrick & Henry Jamboree

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s softball team faced two teams ranked in the top three of NJCAA Division Three preseason rankings Friday at the Patrick & Henry Jamboree held at Southside Park in Martinsville, VA. The eight-ranked Cobras defeated number two ranked Herkimer College 14-2 in five innings before falling to third-ranked Corning Community College 7-6 in the second game.

Caldwell pounded out 19 hits in the 14-3 defeat of Herkimer College. Skylar Banks led the way for the Cobras, going 3-4 with a homerun, a double, and four RBI. Emily Dudley collected three RBI with a 3-3 performance with a homerun and two doubles. Daisy Biaz went 2-3 with two doubles and three RBI.

In the circle, Belle Curry earned the victory by allowing only one hit and one run in four innings of work. She also struck out four batters.

Game two against Corning saw the Caldwell fall behind 5-2 after two innings complete. The Cobras would score four runs in the bottom of the third inning to claim a 6-5 lead. Maggie Bullard’s one-out, two RBI single tied the game at 5, while a error gave Caldwell an additional run, giving the Cobras the lead.

Corning would tie the game at 6 in the top of the fourth and then reclaim the lead for good on a solo homerun in the top of the seventh, holding on to win 7-6.

Caldwell (9-7) will travel to Florence-Darlington Community College on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 12 PM. The Cobras return home Wednesday to face Catawba Valley in a 3PM doubleheader.
