Caldwell Community College Softball Opens Season

Caldwell opened the 2023 season by splitting a double header against Belmont Abbey College Developmental team in Belmont, NC.

Caldwell dropped game one by a score of 4-2. The Cobras led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning before the Crusaders tied the game. Belmont-Abbey would take the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and hold on for the victory. Reagan Winkler had an RBI single, and Isabelle Curry had a solo homerun. Curry was credited with the loss in game one; she pitched five innings, allowed four runs (all earned) while walking four batters and striking out 10.

In game two, Caldwell led 8-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to win 8-4 over the Crusaders. Lauren Anderson got the victory in the circle, pitching 5 innings and allowing no runs off of three hits while walking two batters and striking out five. At the plate, Anderson collected two RBI and went three-for-four at the plate. Zoey Boston, Kaylee Redwine, and Christa Walsh each collected a RBI in the victory. As a team, Caldwell had 13 hits, including a double by Winkler.

Caldwell (1-1) will play a double header at Catawba Valley (Highland Rec. Center) on Monday, February 6 starting at 3PM.
