Caldwell Community College Softball Finished Third at NJCAA Tournament

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute softball defeated Rowan County South Jersey – Gloucester, 17-6 in the elimination bracket of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III softball tournament Friday. Late Friday night however, the Cobras season ended against North Dakota State College of Science, 4-1.

In the win over RCSJ- Gloucester, the Cobras racked up 21 hits. Caldwell scored five runs in the first inning and third innings, a solo run in the sixth and si more in the top of the seventh. Maggie Bullard and Ashley Antonio each had three run home runs and finished with four RBI each on the afternoon. Emily Dudley and Aleah Ikard each had two doubles.

Logan Harris took the complete game win in the circle. She pitched all seven innings, scattering 12 hits and allowing six runs, five earned while striking out three.

However, the Cobras season came to a close against the defending national champions. All of North Dakota’s scoring came in the fourth inning.

Caldwell led 1-0 in the first inning. Kacey Triplett singled to open the contest. One out later, Dudley singed advancing Triplett to third. With two away, Ikard singled Triplett home.

North Dakota tripled to open the bottom of the fourth, then followed up with a runner on first after a throwing error, a single, and then a three run home run.

Fellow NJCAA Region X Patrick & Henry Community College would defeat North Dakota State College of Science in the finals.

The Cobras season ends at 30-21 but making their first appearance in the championship series and finishing in third place. In addition, three Cobras earned all-tournament team honors.
