Caldwell Community College Softball Drops Two in Gastonia

The Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s softball team were swept in both games of a doubleheader to Gaston College on the road at CaroMount Health Park in Gastonia losing 9-1 in game on and 7-2 in game two.

In game one, the Cobras surrendered five runs in the fifth inning to Gaston College, eventually falling 9-1 in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Gastonia.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning, Caldwell had runners at second and third base with no outs but would only get one run off a Sydney Ferguson fielder’s choice RBI. In the top of the fifth inning, the Cobras would load the bases with two out, but came away with no runs. Gaston would then score five runs in the bottom of the inning and add two more in the sixth inning to secure the mercy-run victory.

In game two of a doubleheader, Gaston jumped out to an early lead over Caldwell enroute to 7-2 victory.

Gaston led 1-0 heading into the second inning before Caldwell loaded the bases with two outs and got an RBI walk from Ferguson to make the score 2-1. Gaston would respond in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to a take a 6-1 lead after two innings complete.

Mattie Poulos got an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to plate the Cobras’ second run of the game.

Gaston won their ninth game in a row to improve to 12-2 on the season. Caldwell dropped their third game in row to fall to 4-6 on the season.

The Cobras take on Spartanburg Methodist at home Saturday in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1pm.
