Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s men’s basketball team defeated Spartanburg Methodist College 103-84 Wednesday night in Hudson to secure their twentieth win of the season. It was the Cobras’ fifteenth win in a row and their twenty-third home victory in a row dating back to the 2022 season.
Caldwell’s Cincere Scott returned to action after a four-game absence to score a game-high 33 points off the bench. Spartanburg Methodist was led in scoring by Khalon Hudson with 27.
Caldwell (20-1, 8-0 Region 10 D-1) never trailed in the game and had their biggest lead of 25 points late in the first half. the Cobras led 55-32 heading to half time.
Spartanburg Methodist (13-9, 3-5 Region 10 D-1) would chip away at the advantage in the second half, closing the score to 68-66 with 11 minutes remaining. However, Scott would make three straight three-point baskets to push the Cobras’ lead to 77-66 with 9:24 left in the game.
Trevur Smalls had 16 points for the Caldwell, who also got 13 points each from Torrence Horton and Brandon Morgan. The Cobras swept the season series from Spartanburg Methodist and sit atop the Region 10 Division One standings with an 8-0 record.
Caldwell, ranked 23rd in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association men’s basketball rankings, return home on Friday to face Richard Bland College at 6PM. The Cobras defeated the Statesmen 97-71 on January 6 in Richmond.
