Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute ran their current winning streak to ten games and took sole possession of first place in the Region 10 Division One standings by beating Brunswick Community College 77-63 in Hudson on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Cobras 19th straight win at home.
Brandon Morgan led Caldwell in scoring with 24 points while Torrence Horton added 16 and Cincere Scott chipped in 10. The Dolphins were led in scoring by Jaleb Grant with 18 points and Tyree Bracey and Kevon Vanderhorst each contributed 12 points in the losing effort.
Brunswick took an early nine-point lead at 13-4 before Caldwell began to chip away at the lead. Jacob Nixon’s three-pointer with 10:43 left in the half tied the game at 15 and a basket by Terrance Johnson at the10:22 mark gave the Cobras their first lead of the game, 17-15. It would be a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Caldwell led 36-27 at the half and opened the second half on a 7-0 run to lead 45-27. The Cobras would extend their lead to as many as 20 points in the second half before the Dolphins made a run to cut the score to 62-57 with 5:07 remaining.
Morgan and Scott would hit back-to-back threes to push the Cobra advantage to 11 points at 68-57 with 4:03 remaining and the Dolphins would not get any closer the rest of the way.
Brunswick will travel to Gaston on Sunday for a 2PM tip while Caldwell will return to action at home Friday at 6PM versus Cape Fear.
