Caldwell Community College Men’s Basketball Downs Gaston College

Caldwell Community College men’s basketball overcame a 14-point second half deficit to defeat Gaston 93-87 at home Saturday and remain undefeated in Region 10 Division 1 play.

Gaston led 52-38 with 15:40 remaining in the game when Marcus Metcalf hit a three-point basket to trim the Rhinos’ lead to 52-41. Metcalf’s basket started a 22-8 run by the Cobras over the next 5:27 of the game.

Toyaz Solomon’s two free-throws with 10:13 remaining tied the game at 60. With 8:06 remaining in the game, Caleb Mauldin would connect on two free-throws to give the Cobras a 64-62 advantage, their first lead since 6-4 with 18:16 in the first half.

In the final minute, Gaston would close the deficit to 89-87 but Jalen Miller made two free-throws to push the advantage to 91-87. After a Gaston turnover, Jakari Dula would hit two free-throws with 14 seconds remaining to make the score 93-87. As a team, the Cobras went 32 of 39 from the free-throw line.

Soloman finished with 22 points to lead the Cobras in scoring. Five Cobras finished in double figures as James Freeman scored 14, Jalen Miller had 13, Caleb Mauldin had 11, and Pharrell Boyogueno scored 10 points off the bench.

The Cobras are 18-2 overall, 6-0 in Region X, Divsion 1 play. The Cobras are at Spartanburg Methodist, Wednesday
