Caldwell led 53-48 with 2:14 remaining when Spartanburg Methodist’s Daniel Mayfield connected on a three-pointer to cut the Cobra advantage to 53-51. Mayfield followed with another basket with 1:44 remaining to tie the game at 53.
Spartanburg Methodist had a chance to take the lead with under 30 seconds remaining, but Caldwell’s Boyogueno snagged a rebound off of a missed Pioneer shot and was fouled. Boyogueno hit his two ensuing free-throws to make the score 55-53. The Cobras defense would force another miss by the Pioneers with four seconds remaining. Toyaz Solomon was fouled on the rebound and made one of two free-throws, giving Caldwell a 56-53 advantage.
