Caldwell Community College Baseball Wins Two Out of Three Over the Weekend

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s baseball team won two of three games in their weekend series against Rockingham Community College. The Cobras won games one and three, both by an 8-0 score while the Eagles took game two 8-5.

Due to wet field conditions, games one and two were moved from Walker Field in Lenoir to Durham Field at Lenoir-Rhyne University. In the game one 8-0 victory, Caldwell’s Drew Brink, Jude Morton, and Drew Park each collected two RBI in the game. Brink’s two RBI came on a homerun in the bottom of the second inning. Starting pitcher Walker Pedante was credited with the win, pitching five innings of shutout baseball, allowing four hits and four walks, while striking out six.

In the game two 8-5 loss, Rockingham took advantage of Caldwell walks, scoring five runs in the first inning of one hit. The Cobras would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Tanner Martin three RBI double with the bases loaded. In the top of the seventh with two runners on base with two outs, Rockingham got an inside the park homerun by Nate Wesley to go up 8-5. Caldwell threatened with two runners on base and one out in the bottom of the seventh but came up empty.

In the rubber match on Sunday at Rockingham, Joseph Rice pitched a complete game, leading Caldwell to an 8-0 victory. In Rice’s nine innings of work, he allowed no runs while striking out seven against six hits and two walks. Coleman Tisdale led the way offensively, collecting four hits in five at bats with three RBI.

Caldwell evened their record at 8-8 overall and are 5-1 in Region 10 Division-Three games. The Cobras travel to Patrick & Henry Community College in Martinsville, VA on Wednesday for a single game before facing Surry Community College next weekend in a three game series.
