Caldwell Community College Baseball To Play in NJCAA World Series

Caldwell Community College baseball wins the Mid-Atlantic District Division Three Baseball Championship series 2-0 over Community College of Allegheny County, and will play in the NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series at Pioneer Park, Greeneville, TN, May 28-June 2.

In game one, that the Cobras won 12-3, Caldwell struck quickly for three runs in the top of the first inning. Cole Hales led off with a single, followed by a Steven Smith walk bringing Breon Ishmael to the plate to deliver a two RBI double. Jermie Greene would get a sacrifice fly RBI for the Cobra’s third run of the inning.

CCAC would answer with two runs of their own thanks to an Andrew Sopata two out, two RBI single, making the score 3-2 Caldwell after one inning complete.

Caldwell would extend their lead in the second inning as Ishmael picked up his third RBI on a single. Jacob Bebber would follow with a two RBI double and Caldwell led 6-2.

The Cobras would add three more runs in the seventh inning, getting as Hales got a two out, two RBI double. Noah Love made his return to the line-up felt by getting an RBI single, and Caldwell led 9-2 after the top half of the seventh. Love would add another RBI single in the eighth inning. Bebber and Tyler Bradley would each collect an RBI in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Seth Willis picked up the victory, allowing three runs off of seven hits and striking out eight in his eight innings of work. Ishmael and Bebber would each finish with three RBI as Caldwell won for the twenty-third time in a row. The loss ended CCAC’s nine game winning streak.

In game two, Caldwell got four RBI from Cole Hales and an eight-inning shutout performance by starting pitcher Spencer Ledford to defeat Allegheny 5-0 and win the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Division III Baseball Championship two games to none. The Cobras punch their ticket to the NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series in Greeneville, TN. It will be the program’s first appearance in the World Series.

In the second inning, Cole Hales got a two out, two RBI single to give Caldwell a 2-0 lead. Caldwell added three runs in the fourth inning when Hales got a two RBI triple and Steven Smith followed with an RBI single, extending the Caldwell lead, 5-0.

CCAC would threaten in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with only one out. But Ledford would get a strike out and a pop up to get out of the jam. Ledford would record a total of 11 strikeouts in his appearance.

Caldwell broke open the game in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs. Tyler Bradley would give the Cobras their sixth run of the game on a fielder’s choice RBI. JT Fecteau would add a three RBI double to make it a 9-0 score. Steven Smith would add a two RBI triple and Breon Ishmael would get an RBI single as Caldwell led 12-0 going to the ninth.

Caldwell (46-7) won their 46th game of the season and their twenty-fourth in a row. They will advance to the World Series, with play scheduled to start on May 28.
