Caldwell Community College Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s baseball team swept a three-game series versus Virginia Peninsula Community College February 24-25 at Walker Stadium to openupRegion10 Division Three play.

In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Caldwell jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and answered each rally that Virginia Peninsula made en route to a 14-8 victory. Hayden Wilson drove four runs off of five hits in the victory. Greg Bello also had two RBI.

Game two saw a solid pitching performance from Caldwell starter Zack Bohn in a 6-1 victory. He went five innings allowing one run off three hits while striking out four against two walks. Evan Johnson collected three hits including a homerun and double to go along with two RBI. Coleman Tisdale had two RBI.

In Sunday’s series final, Caldwell scored ten runs in the first two innings to put Virginia Peninsula away early on their way to a mercy-rule 13-1 victory. Bello led the way offensively, with a homerun, triple, and two RBI part of his three-hit performance. Joseph Rich picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out ten while allowing only four hits and one run.

Caldwell improved to 5-7 overall and 3-0 in Region 10 D-3 play. Virginia Peninsula is now 3-11 overall and 0-3 in division play. The Cobras return home Tuesday at 3PM to host CCBC-Essex in a nine-inning game.
