Gaston College exploded for nine runs over the first two innings to hand Caldwell their first loss of the 2023 season, 12-2 in seven innings Wednesday afternoon at Walker Stadium.

The Rhinos (6-1) scored three runs (two earned) in the first inning and belted two home runs during a six run second inning to seize control of the game.

Hayden Setzer got the Cobras on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run. Setzer would also homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, providing the Cobras with their only runs of the game.

Starter Zach Bohn took the loss for the Cobras on the mound. He allowed seven earned runs off of eight hits, he struck out one in his one-and-two-thirds innings of work.

The Cobras are 2-1 on the season. Caldwell travels to Catawba Valley for a 4pm start on Friday before hosting the Red Hawks on Saturday at 4pm.
