Caldwell Community College Baseball Falls in Two of Three Against Rockingham

Rockingham Community College’s baseball team won two-out-three games over the weekend against Caldwell Community College, winning the opening game of the series 6-1 on Saturday and taking the rubber match on Sunday by a 6-4 score. Caldwell won game two of the series 6-1 on Saturday.

In game one of a doubleheader in Wentworth, NC, the host Eagles broke open a scoreless game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and adding two more in the fifth inning enroute to a 6-1 victory. Caldwell got an RBI single by Jude Morton in the top of the sixth to avoid the shut out. Greg Bello went 2-4 at the plate in the loss.

Game two of the Saturday doubleheader saw Caldwell score four runs in the fifth inning to break open a 1-1 game. Bello started the rally with an RBI single. Isaiah Kirby and Bello would then score on a passed ball, followed by a Drew Park RBI single to make the score 5-1. Gage Tomlin picked up the victory on the mound, allowing one run in six innings of work off five hits with three strikeouts.

On Sunday’s third game of the series at Walker Stadium in Lenoir, Rockingham scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and added an insurance run the top of the seventh on their way to a 6-4 victory. The Cobras loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but failed to score. Josh Nichols was credited with two RBI in the loss. Park collected two hits and an RBI as well.

Caldwell is now 15-15 overall and 9-4 in Region 10 Division Three. Rockingham improved to 15-24 overall, 6-9 in Region 10 Division Three. Caldwell is scheduled to host Catawba Valley Community College on Thursday at 6PM.
