The Caldwell Community College baseball team fell to Patrick and Henry College 9-8 in 11 innings at L.P. Frans Stadium Wednesday night.
The Cobras surrendered six runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Caldwell would get on the board thanks to a leadoff homerun by Jacob Bebber. Patrick & Henry would add two runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-RBI homerun by Javian Serrano.
In the bottom of the sixth, Caldwell scored five runs to make it an 8-6 game. Bebber drew a one out walk; Jermie Greene and Michael Logan each followed with a walk to load the bases. After a Patriot pitching change, Breon Ishmael hit a two-RBI double to cut the lead to five runs. Michael Logan scored on a pass ball to make the score 8-4. Mason Lyda got a two out RBI single, with Kayl Ratliff scoring on the throw to cut the deficit to two runs.
Caldwell would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Bebber lead off the inning with a double and would score on an RBI fielder’s choice by Logan. Ishmael’s RBI single scored Logan to tie the game.
In the top of the eleventh inning, the Patriot’s Joe Pilewski would get a leadoff single. Trevor Sheehan would be hit by a pitch to make it first and second with no outs. The Patriots’ Carlos Amezquita laid down a bunt that was misplayed; the error allowed Pilewski to score, giving Patrick and Henry a 9-8 lead. Steven Smith would come in to pitch for the Cobras, striking out three of the four batters he faced to hold the deficit to one run. In the home half of the eleventh, Bebber would single, and Greene was hit by a pitch to put the tying and winning runs aboard for the Cobras. However, two strikeouts and a ground out by the next three batters would end the game.
Caldwell falls to 22-7 overall and sees thier program record 18 game winning streak comes to an end. The Cobras travel to Thomas Nelson for a three-games series this weekend. Saturday’s game will be a doubleheader starting at 1PM with Sunday’s single game also starting at 1PM.
