The Caldwell Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Wake Tech Friday, losing the first game 12-1 but winning the second contest 7-5.
In the game two Cobras win, Wake Tech’s Christian Schmidt had a grand slam in the top of the first inning. Johny McDonald added a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning.
Caldwell’s Seth Willis came in relief in the top of the fourth and pitched four innings. allowed three hits, one run (earned), struck out five and walked none. Darien Farley a two RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to give Caldwell a 6-4 lead. Earlier in the inning, John Melton had a solo homerun, followed later in the inning by an RBI double from Tyler Bradley. Caldwell would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly RBI from Jake Ortiz. Ortiz also had an RBI double in the third inning. Mike Logan collected a RBI single in the third.
Caldwell goes to 12-7 on the season. The Cobras are at home on Wednesday, April 7 for a double header against Patrick Henry. Wake Tech at home Saturday, April 10-Sunday, April 11 for a three-game series against Catawba Valley.
