Caldwell Baseball Picks Up Doubleheader Sweep

Caldwell Community College baseball swept a doubleheader over Rockingham Community College, 4-1 and 3-2.

In game one, in the top of the first inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Michael Logan’s two RBI single gave the Cobras the early lead. Kayl Ratliff would add a run with an RBI single, giving Caldwell an early 3-0 advantage.

Rockingham would get on the board in the seconding inning, thanks to an RBI double by Scotty Diekman. The Cobras would get an insurance run in the top of the seventh, on a Tyler Bradley RBI single.

The Eagles would load the bases in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, but relief pitcher Jarrett Penland would get a ground ball to get out of the inning. The Eagles would get a leadoff walk in the 9th, but Penland would strike out the next three batters to end the game.

Seth Willis threw seven innings for the win, giving up three hits, one unearned run, striking out six.

In game two, Caldwell would score all three of their runs in the first inning, enroute to a 3-2 victory over Rockingham. East Rhoney would get Caldwell on the board with a two out single, scoring Cole Hales.

After Michael Logan was hit by a pitch, Hayden Setzer would deliver a two RBI double giving Caldwell a three run lead. Rockingham would answer in the bottom half of the inning when Gabe Duncan scored on a passed ball.

Xaziar Stewart’s RBI double would plate Cole Fuller to make it a 3-2 game. Steven Smith would come into the game in relief for the Cobras in the bottom of the seventh, getting a strike out and ground out for the first two outs of the inning.

The Eagles would get the tying run aboard when Caeden Howell got a single. Cole Fuller was hit by a pitch to put the winning run on base, but Smith struck out Angel Gonzalez to end the game.

The Cobras improve to Caldwell 21-6 overall, 5-0 in Region 10 Division 3 play. The Cobras have won 17 games in a row and are ranked #5 in this week’s NJCAA Division II rankings.
