Caldwell Community College baseball won 17-0 in a run-rule five inning game at home Sunday over Rockingham Community College.
In the bottom of the second inning, Michael Logan would get a leadoff single. With one out, Jermie Greene would get a two RBI homerun to give Caldwell a 2-0 lead. In the top of third, Rockingham’s Cam Graham would have a leadoff single. After a pop out, Cobra starter Hayden Setzer would deliver a ground ball for the defense to turn into a double play, stopping an Eagle rally. In the bottom of the third, the Cobras would blow the game open, scoring 11 runs. The highlight of the inning was Jermie Greene collecting his third and fourth RBI on a double.
In the home half of the fourth inning, the Cobras would tack on six more runs, thanks in part to a three RBI homerun by Breon Ishmael.
Ishmael would finish the game with five RBI and Greene would collect four on the afternoon. Mason Lyda had two RBI and Kayl Ratliff added one for the Cobras. Hayden Setzer got the complete game victory on the mound, striking out six while walking none. All five hits he allowed were singles.
The Cobras, winners of 18 games in a row, improve to 22-6 (6-0 Region 10 Division 3). The Cobras will return to action on Wednesday in a doubleheader against Region 10 Division 2 opponent Patrick & Henry. The games will be played at LP Frans Stadium, home of the Hickory Crawdads, starting at 3PM.
