Burke County Woman Charged With Felony & Misdemeanor Drug Offenses
31-year-old Courtney Leigh Morgan of High Peak Mountain Road in Valdese was arrested Wednesday (July 12) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. A second suspect was also arrested in this case on a misdemeanor charge.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a gold 2008 Honda Civic on Crawley Drive at Ora Road in Morganton. The vehicle’s tag was obstructed by a rhinestone border. After making contact with the driver and passenger, the suspect, Morgan, was placed under arrest on the drug charges. One-half gram of fentanyl was reportedly seized by police during the traffic stop.
According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Courtney Leigh Morgan has multiple convictions on record in North Carolina dating back to 2015. She’s been convicted in Burke and McDowell Counties of various charges including felony counts of larceny, breaking & entering, and receiving a stolen vehicle. Her last conviction was in McDowell County in 2019.
Following Wednesday’s arrest, Morgan was brought to the Burke County Jail under $5,000 secured bond. She was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (July 14). A District Court appearance is scheduled for August 3.
