Nancy Kelly of Hickory and her husband, Dean, have won $100,000 in the N.C. Education lottery’s $150 Million Cash Explosion game. Ms. Kelly is an East Burke Middle School P.E. teacher and volleyball and basketball coach.
Dean Kelly bought the winning ticket at The Ole Store on Burke Street in Rhodhiss. As the couple watched “Wheel of Fortune,” Ms. Kelly scratched off the ticket and found she had a winner. Ms. Kelley previously won $100 from a scratch-off ticket the day before her big win on Tuesday (September 22).
The Kellys claimed their prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, they took home $70,756. The couple has not yet decided what to do with their winnings.
