Burke County Man Jailed On Charge Of Failing To Register

37-year-old Justin Dean Chapman of Mineral Springs Mountain Road in Connelly Springs was arrested Friday (January 27) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged on a true bill of indictment with failure to register as a sex offender.

Chapman is listed on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry as a result of a conviction in Burke County in June, 2017 for sexual battery. The offense occurred in June, 2016. He was confined for a total of 130 days following his arrest and was released in July, 2017.

Chapman has multiple convictions listed on the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website. All of the convictions are in Burke County and date back to March, 2006. Chapman has been convicted of various offenses including a drug charge, assault, failing to notify of a change of address as a sex offender, and sex offender on child premises.

The suspect was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. Friday and placed in the Burke County Jail under $25,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (January 30). A Superior Court date is set for March 13.
