Burke County Man Faces Drug Trafficking, Possession Charges

31-year-old Michael Edward Monn of Foresthaven Road in Morganton was arrested Thursday (March 21) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with four felony counts of larceny of property, receiving or possessing stolen goods along with single felony counts of trafficking methamphetamine and possession of schedule II controlled substance. Monn is also charged with resist, delay, or obstruct a public officer.

According to reports, Monn was the subject of a manhunt Thursday afternoon in the area of Valdese Avenue, Hogan Street and East Fleming Drive. Thursday at 7:15 a.m. a Public Safety Officer responded to a report of a suspicious person at an address on Valdese Avenue. He ran into a wooded area in the 200 block of Valdese Avenue after U.S. Marshals found him at a residence. Later in the day, Monn was spotted running through Forest Hill Cemetery and was taken into custody.

Michael Edward Monn has multiple convictions according to the North Carolina Department of Corrections Offender Public Information website. All of the cases, which date back to 2012, are from Burke County. He’s been convicted of felony and misdemeanor charges. The last conviction was in October, 2022.

Monn was incarcerated under $190,000 secured bond. He has a District Court date is set for April 12, a Superior Court date is scheduled for April 22.
