Brother & Sister from Maiden win $100K in N.C.E.L.

On July 24, a brother and sister, Chanthavong and Daravone Boulany of Maiden, won a $100,000 prize in the North Carolina Education Lottery’s Powerball drawing. They bought the winning $3 Power Play ticket from the Hop In store on Island Ford Road in Maiden.

They claimed the prize Friday at lottery headquarters. They split the prize, and — after required federal and state tax withholdings — they each took home $35,625. Both plan to use their winnings to pay for school. And I DO hope I didn’t butcher their names too badly. My apologies if I did.
