Break-ins To Unlocked Vehicles With The Theft Of Firearms Under Investigation

Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a rash of break-ins to unlocked vehicles at homes west of Lincolnton. The break-ins occurred on August 29 to unlocked vehicles parked at residences on Rock Dam Road, Daniels Road, Guy Heavner Road, and Blossom Hill Road. The incidents were reported to the Sheriff’s Office on August 30.

In two of the vehicle break-ins, a Glock pistol and ammunition and a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber pistol were stolen. Multiple unlocked vehicles were searched by the individual or individuals. Also stolen were cash and a military backpack. While taking the report from one of the victims, Gaston County Police advised they had recovered the military backpack at a break-in in their county. All vehicles parked in the area that were locked were not tampered with.

Thieves have a tendency to break into unlocked vehicles because they want to get in and out of the area as quick as possible. Since January 1, 2020 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has investigated 130 incidents where a firearm was stolen from a motor vehicle putting at least that many stolen firearms on the streets.

Anyone with information on these crimes, or if you see somebody acting suspicious or looking into vehicles, call 9-1-1, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050, the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202 or Lincolnton/Lincoln County Crime Stoppers at 704-736-8909. All tips will be investigated.
