Break-in, Stolen Goods Charges Filed

26-year-old Tory Jerome Benjamin, who is listed as a homeless person from Morganton was arrested Thursday (April 11) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of break & entering to automobiles, trailers, boats, aircraft or watercraft, larceny of property, receiving or possessing stolen goods, and possession of stolen goods.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday (April 10) a Public Safety Officer responded to a convenience store on West Union Street in Morganton in reference to a larceny. A male victim told the officer that his cell phone was taken out of his vehicle while he was inside the store. The suspect in the theft was identified by surveillance footage.

Benjamin was arrested shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday at an address on South Green Street in Morganton. He was brought to the Burke County Jail under $5,000 secured bond. A Thursday District Court date was scheduled.
