Both LR Track and Field Teams Picked Second in SAC Preseason Standings

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Team was selected to finish second place in the 2024 SAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Poll. The Bears recorded a score of 135 points and received three first-place votes.

In the 2023 campaign, LR finished second in the SAC Outdoor Championships. Wingate, who won the conference championships a year ago, led the poll with a score of 142 and 10 first-place votes.

The conference also announced the outdoor athletes to watch for all 13 respective programs. For LR, there were three athletes selected: Alexis Brown, Victoria Aransiola and Holly Kone.

Brown, a sophomore from Mableton, Ga., is coming off first-place finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the 2024 NCAA Division Indoor Championships. In her two indoor seasons, she has now won three individual national titles which include back-to-back titles in the 200-meter event.

During the 2023 outdoor season, Brown was named the Co-Track Athlete and Freshman of the Meet at the SAC Championships with her victories in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay events.

In addition to her conference titles, Brown also posted personal bests at the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational for her times in the 100-meter and 200-meter events.

Another LR athlete to watch on the short track this outdoor season is Victoria Aransiola. The freshman is coming off an appearance at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

In her first-ever conference championship, Aransiola picked up two top three finishes with a second-place result in the 200-meter dash and a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash.

Kone, a junior from Nottingham, England, won both the 4×400-meter relay and triple jump event at the 2024 SAC Indoor Championships.

At the end of the 2023 outdoor season, Kone had her most success by setting a personal best in the triple jump at the Mount Olive First Chance. She also participated in the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships as part of the 4×100-meter relay team with Melody Jones, Abigail Kinoshita and Brown.

Ajayi looks to build off his impressive first indoor season after being named the Men’s Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year. The first-year student won the conference championship in the 400-meter race and a third-place result in the 200-meter event.

After a stellar performance at the conference championships, Ajayi also participated in the 400-meter event and the 4×400-meter relay at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. The freshman was part of a podium finish in the relay event with Clarence McGill, Olawole Olanrewaju and Marcus Crumpler.

Speaking of Crumpler, the junior from Huntersville, N.C. was also named as an athlete to watch for this outdoor season.

In the 2023 outdoor season, Crumpler set new personal bests in the 200-meter, 400-meter and 400-meter hurdle events. He was also a member of the 4×400-meter relay team that earned a third-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

Throughout the 2023-24 indoor season, he recorded five victories on the track. While most of his victories came in the 4×400-meter relay, the junior also won the 400-meter races at the Commonwealth College Opener and Bast-Cregger Multi Invitational.

Wadsworth, a senior from Dansville, N.Y., has already had a terrific start to the 2024 outdoor season with first place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles and long jump events in the LR Bears Opener.

During the 2023 outdoor season, Wadsworth competed in the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays. He also was a part of the conference-winning 4×100-meter relay team alongside Trent Davis II, Lucas Besong and Dario Matau.
