Black Mountain Man Charged With Felony Offenses In Burke County

49-year-old Ronald Eugene Trantham, Jr. of Black Mountain, N.C. was arrested Wednesday (March 22) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He was charged with felony counts of flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and possession of stolen goods along with a misdemeanor count of possession of schedule VI controlled substance. He’s also charged with reckless driving to endanger, reckless driving with wanton disregard, fail to heed light or siren, and speeding.

According to the North Carolina Judicial Branch website, Trantham is also charged with felony counts of larceny and larceny by removing anti-theft device. He was arrested shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 40 in Morganton. Trantham’s criminal history includes convictions on misdemeanor charges in Buncombe County in 1990 and 2004. He received probation and suspended sentences in both cases.

Following Wednesday’s arrest, Trantham was placed in the Burke County Jail. His bond was initially set at $40,000 secured, as of earlier today he was being held under $65,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled Thursday (March 23) in Morganton.
